Gary Stevens
b. March 6, 1963
Born to a trainer father and rodeo queen mother in Caldwell, ID, Gary Stevens began his thoroughbred racing
career in 1979 at age 16, riding his first thoroughbred winner Lil Star for his father.
Stevens has won eight Triple Crown races, including three Kentucky Derby victories (1988, 1995, 1997), two Preakness Stakes (1997, 2001) and three Belmont Stakes (1994, 1998, 2001). Stevens' victory on Victory Gallop in the 1998 Belmont Stakes, nosing out Triple Crown title contender Real Quiet, is considered one of the greatest rides in history.
Stevens was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 1997 and won the 1996 George Woolf Award and the 1998 Eclipse Award.
Stevens played the role of George Woolf in the Academy Award nominated movie Seabiscuit in 2003. On the set of Seabiscuit, Stevens met his wife Angie. He retired in 2005 and became a racing analyst for NBC and TVG. Stevens has four children from his first marriage: Ashley, TC, Riley and Carlie.
