Jerry Bailey

Born in Dallas, TX, Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey began his racing career
in 1974 with a win on his first mount, Fetch, at New Mexico's Sunland Park
and has gone on to win 5,892 races in his 32-year career.
Bailey boasts six wins in Triple Crown races, including two Kentucky Derby victories (1993, 1996), two Preakness Stakes (1991, 2000) and two Belmont Stakes (1991, 2003). He has won a record 15 Breeders' Cup races, including five Breeders' Cup Classics. In the 1990's, Bailey rode Cigar to a record-equaling 16 consecutive victories. He is also the winningest rider in the Dubai World Cup.
In 1992, Bailey was awarded the George Woolf Award, followed by induction into the Racing Hall of Fame in 1995. In 2003, Bailey won an unprecedented seventh Eclipse Award as the outstanding jockey in North America. As President of The Jockeys' Guild, Bailey was instrumental in lobbying for protective vests to be worn by all riders.
On January 28, 2006, Bailey rode his last mount at the Sunshine Millions races at Gulfstream Park. He retired in second place in all-time earnings. Bailey has embarked on a new career as a television analyst for ABC and ESPN and enjoys more time at home with his wife Suzee and son Justin.
